For State Senate
In a statement to a group at the National Council of State Legislators convention, Microsoft Executive, Bill Gates stated that he looks at the status of schools when determining where to set up shop. A well-trained workforce provides the kind of economic future we need in Colorado, and education attracts employers who want their employees’ children to receive a high-quality education. Providing our children with an excellent education is best for their future and for the future economic health of our state.
BEST
(Better Education for Students Today)
Children must have an environment conducive to learning so that they can truly succeed. In 2008, I supported the BEST (Better Education for Students Today) bill, which provided funding for repairs on unsafe schools. The funding earmarks funding from school rentals, royalties from extraction of minerals, and interest for capital projects, so the legislation gives children a great place to attend school without raising taxes.
Realignment of Standards
Today’s students are tomorrow’s doctors and architects, and must be properly trained so they can succeed at these jobs. Betty also supported legislation to realign standards in K-20 education so that all of Colorado’s kids emerge from high school prepared for college and emerge from college ready for the workforce.
